“I cannot sleep, I cannot dream tonight.”

This song so accurately describes my life at the moment as I write this, and I found it so fitting that this is also Kristine and Jacob’s song. So, I decided tonight would be perfect to blog about two very special people I had the pleasure of meeting this last month. 

When Jacob reached out to me at the beginning of February, it was literally a match made in heaven. Not 10 minutes before I saw his email sitting in my inbox, I had been praying and asking God for some more bookings for February. I almost couldn’t believe my eyes when I read that Jacob had found me through a mutual friend, and was wondering if I would be available in the next 2 weeks to shoot a surprise proposal/engagement session for him and his soon-to-be fiance. I called him and got goosebumps as he told me all about it. 

For the next week, Jacob and I plotted and schemed via phone so that when the moment came, it would be perfect. The day before their session, I met with Jacob and Kristine at Java to get to know them better, and to show them where we would be shooting. Kristine had expected a proposal, but Jacob told her that the ring wouldn’t make it in time, but that he wanted to continue the session with me anyways cause he had already paid for it. So, we drank coffee, laughed over some of our favorite tv shows, I learned more about how they had met, and Kristine had no idea that this wasn’t just a simple couples’  session; in one day, she would be a bride-to-be. 

Saturday I woke up with butterflies. I met Kristine and Jacob at our location and walked them around and took some fun and giggly pictures to warm up, and to try my best to calm Jacob’s nerves (and to be honest, mine too!). Then, 20 minutes into our session, I brought them over to the spot Jacob had picked out. I told them we were going to do a fun prompt, “one that always gets my couples laughing” (truth be told I completely made this up and I’ve never done anything like it before in my life, haha). I told them that each of them was going to close their eyes, while the other one would get their best silly face ready. Then, on the count of three, they would open their eyes to see the silly face! I told Kristine to make a silly face first, and Jacob covered his eyes, and then it was Kristine’s turn to cover hers… 

My hands shook (thankfully not enough to effect the pictures!) as I told Kristine to uncover her eyes and saw Jacob ask her, “Will you marry me?” It always makes me so emotional whenever I see this moment unfold in front of me! 

We spent the rest of the time taking pictures with the two of them beaming from ear to ear on cloud nine. It was my first time ever finishing up the rest of a session right after the big moment, and I loved it! You could see the joy and happiness and excitement in every picture. 

With each client that I work with, my goal is to become more than a photographer for them- I want to become their friend. Kristine and Jacob were easily some of the kindest, most considerate, fun, laid back, and amazing people I’ve ever worked with and had the pleasure of getting to know, and I can say confidently that they are two close friends of mine now! In just 1 month, they will be saying “I do” at the alter and I am so honored to be able to say I will get to be there capturing it all on camera. Photography is so much more than being able to take good pictures and capture pretty couples at sunset. Photography is about documenting people and their stories, and getting to know the subject so you can do it right. I am so thankful you guys found me and that I am able to be here during this exciting time of life! Here’s to many more years of love and friendship for you both. *cheers*
